Heute vor einem Jahr am 24. Februar 2022 hat die Russische Armee auf Befehl von Vladimir Putin die Ukraine überfallen. Vitsche Berlin und das Zentrum für liberale Moderne rufen heute zur Demo unter dem Motto ‘Full Scale Freedom’ auf. Die Demonstranten ziehen vom ‘Cafe Kyiv’ zum Brandeburger Tor – ich schaffe es erst um 18:00 zur Kundgebung dort dazu zu kommen.
One year ago today, on 24 February 2022, the Russian army invaded Ukraine on the orders of Vladimir Putin. Vitsche Berlin and the Centre for Liberal Modernity are calling for a demo today under the motto ‘Full Scale Freedom’. The demonstrators are marching from ‘Cafe Kyiv’ to the Brandeburger Gate – I joined at 6 pm, to the rally at Brandenburg Gate

Auf Bildschirmen rechts und links der Bühne vor dem Tor werden die Redner gezeigt und zwischendrin die Videobotschaft zum Jahrestag des russischen Angriffs von Wolodymyr Selenskyj übertragen.
Screens to the right and left of the stage in front of the gate show the speakers and in between they broadcast the video message on the anniversary of the Russian attack by Volodymyr Selenskyj.
Weitere Redner folgen – neben Politikern, die sich für die Freiheit der Ukraine einsetzen, dem Ukrainischen Botschafter Oleksii Makeiev, bei dem neben der Bürgermeisterin Franziska Giffey Diplomaten zahlreicher Länder mit auf der Bühne stehen, reden Vertreter der Zivilgesellschaft, u.A. eine Frau, die ihre Erfahrung von der Belagerung von Mariupol schildert. Zum Abschluß reagiert Ralf Fücks, der Direktor des ‘Zentrum liberale Moderne’ auf die Demo, die hier morgen als sogenannter ‘Aufstand für den Frieden’ stattfinden wird: Es gebe keinen Kompromiß zwischen Freiheit und Diktatur! Wie viele Redner betont er besonders, dass die Ukraine nicht nur die eigene, sondern unser aller Freiheit in Europa verteidige und dazu jede Hilfe braucht und verdient.
Other speakers follow – in addition to politicians who stand up for freedom in Ukraine, the Ukrainian ambassador Oleksii Makeiev, with diplomats from numerous countries on stage alongside the mayor Franziska Giffey, representatives of civil society speak, including a woman who describes her experience of the siege of Mariupol. Finally, Ralf Fücks, director of the ‘Zentrum Liberale Moderne’, reacts to the demonstration that will take place here tomorrow as a so-called ‘Uprising for Peace’: He says there is no compromise between freedom and dictatorship! Like many speakers, he particularly emphasises that Ukraine is not only defending its own freedom, but the freedom of all of us in Europe, and needs and deserves all the help it can get.
