usk Berlin

The Berlin Urban Sketcher group started as a blog in December 2010. Four Berlin sketchers, Catalina, Olga, Oona and Rolf met and decided to apply to the international umbrella organization of Urban Sketcher to establish a ‚Regional Chapter‘. As a result we got a ‚turnkey‘ blog with the URL berlin.urbansketchers.org and a welcome post and started blogging. Since then we are also an ‚official chapter‘ of the Urban Sketchers network.

In the following years, the blog was the platform where the growing group showed their drawings. In parallel, drawing meetings, and occasionally more ambitious events such as exhibitions and participation in community events were organized via a mailing group. In 2017, the Facebook group was added, which allowed direct interaction among members.

The blog continued to operate in parallel – unlike the format-limited publishing options on Facebook, a blog allows for a more detailed, narrative form of graphic storytelling, as introduced and practiced by the international blog at urbansketchers.org.

When the international blog urbansketchers.org was restructured in 2021, we decided to set up a new blog under the self-managed URL berlinusk.org and migrate the content of the old website there. Enno Peter, Urban Sketcher and WordPress and marketing expert, served as technical and organizational consultant, and Rolf Schröter, also an Urban Sketcher and an administrator of the Berlin blog since its inception, oversaw the redesign.

At the end of 2024, administrators Enno and Rolf largely stepped back, and the blog became a website exclusively, providing information about drawing meetings and other activities. The discussion takes place in the Facebook Group, statt. Instagram has been added for sharing pictures and making announcements.
